April Edwards, Professor of Cyber Science at the United States Naval Academy, earned a Ph.D. in computer science from Lehigh University. She has written numerous articles that describe methods for determining the most critical values in the reduced dimensionality matrix, and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI). She has also authored many articles on using machine learning techniques to detect cyber predation and cyber bullying. While Dr. Edwards' primary research interest is in the theory and practice of information retrieval and textual data mining, she also has an investment in undergraduate research, and has co-authored many articles with her students. She has received over $1.2 million from the National Science Foundation in support of her research.
Before returning to academia, April worked for 13 years for Electronic Data Systems (EDS), where she specialized in project management and database design and administration.
The Post-Tonal Toolkit and TheAPPist are the direct result of her work with students in a Software Engineering course.
